Wiley InterScience - Login changes
NOTICE OF POLICY CHANGE
E-mail Address Now Required for Wiley InterScience User Logins
Beginning August 15th 2005, Wiley InterScience will require individual users of the site, who access online subscriptions via a username and password, to update their registration information with a valid e-mail address in place of a self-selected username.
This new policy is designed to help improve security and reduce account duplication. Requiring an e-mail address as a login has become widely standard practice among many high-profile commercial websites.
NOTE: This new policy affects only individual users who have registered on the site with a personal login. It will not impact the vast majority of users at institutions, who are verified by IP-address for access to subscribed online content.
Only individuals who access personal, member, or complimentary subscriptions via a login will have to update their accounts. Similarly, those who have chosen to register for any of the personalized features of the site—such as table of contents alerts or purchase single Pay-Per-View articles—will need to update their logins. Please note that logins previously saved as a "cookie" on a user's computer will no longer work; the user will have to manually enter their existing login to update their accounts. Once a new login has been created and verified.
Now, when a registered user comes to the Wiley InterScience site, and enters their existing login, the following will occur:
1. User enters current login and password.
2. User is prompted to enter name, country, and an area of interest, along with a single valid e-mail address.
3. User receives a one-time confirmation e-mail, then clicks on the authentication link in the message. The verification process is complete.
Afterward, users can login to the site with just their e-mail and password. (NOTE: confirmation links expire after 24 hours; after that, users can re-submit their info, if necessary)
This is a one-time process. Aside from the confirmation e-mail, users will not be sent any further e-mail alerts from Wiley InterScience unless they explicitly opt-in to receive such messages.
New users who register on the site for the first time will be guided through a similar procedure to enter and validate their e-mail logins.
This notice of policy change is being sent to all Customer Administrators for institutional Wiley InterScience accounts. For additional information, see Wiley InterScience's Validation Policy. Please forward this e-mail to any of your colleagues who may find it of interest.
For all enquiries, problems or suggestions concerning the Wiley InterScience service, please contact: cs-wis@wiley.comTo ensure delivery to your inbox (not bulk or junk folders), please add wiscience@wiley.com to your address book.
